Chicago’s Commercial Trash Collection proposal by Mayor Daley is feared to be a “Customers Don’t Win” proposal.

Chicago’s Commercial Trash Collection proposal by Mayor Daley is feared to be a “Customers Don’t Win” proposal. *(Crain).

Crain Chicago Business reported in their July 28, 2008 news that Mayor Daley is proposing a new trash collection plan that some waste haulers believe would leave businesses without choices as to who they hire as trash haulers, creating monopolies among haulers. The Municipal Commercial Waste Franchise Plan would call for the City of Chicago to be divided into to 10 to 20 districts, with 1 private company selected in each as the exclusive franchise commercial hauler. Office buildings, condominium towers, factories and other commercial users would be required to use the franchise hauler for their district, with existing contracts voided within 15 months of a franchise award. The city would asses an *“administrative fee of 5%-6% of hauling bill”.
Currently, Commercial properties select their own private garbage hauler.

What do you think?
The South Shore Chamber Inc believes this may not be in the best interest of South Shore businesses. For more information contact the National Solid Wastes Management Association member, William Birth (708) 344-5000 x17. Let your Alderman know your opinion, call!
